Yun Zhong Ge Chapter 32: Aroma Filling the Room

Poor Xiao Mei. To have no family, no one who truly cares, no love, I can't even begin to imagine how would feel. This is when Liu Xun gets his first taste of power, and power can be like a drug, once you have a taste of it, you just want more. Its obvious Yun Ge still cares for Meng Jue, if not why all that avoidance? After all, he was her proper first love, and even Liu Fu Ling can sense it. How awesome was it that Liu Fu Ling actually looked to Yun Ge for her opinion first when Meng Jue asked whether they could be alone? It isn't about him, or his feelings, but about her. He put her first, her feelings, her emotions, her everything came first. That is enough for me to be on the Liu Fu Ling & Yun Ge ship.

CHAPTER COMPLETE. I'm so sorry about the delay this time. I've been really busy and feeling under the weather as well. The weather has been crazy and everyone seems to be falling sick around me ):

Yun Zhong Ge Chapter 31: Past Events, Old Connections

Besides Liu Fu Ling, my favourite character is Liu He. He is so ridiculously over the top but yet still human, and not just a caricature. Liu He's backstory is revealed here and a lost long childhood connection dug up. Huo Cheng Jun starts to craftily make her way into the palace.

Liu Fu Ling is such a cute boy with an apricot I really can't wait to see the boy who will play him. Can I just say how much I love the scene where Yun Ge threw water at Liu He? It is such a Yun Ge thing to do, and only she'll be able to get away with it.

Yun Zhong Ge Chapter 30: Meeting under the Lanterns of the Festival

For some reason, I was always drawn to this chapter. During re-readings of YZG, I'll always skip others to read this. Huo Cheng Jun's fate is certainly pitiful and Meng Jue did lead her on but in the end, stepping across the 'evil' line was always her choice. This was Meng Jue stepping way out of line and Yun Ge shouldn't have sworn to it, placing her happiness on the line. Ultimately, the promise was broken, and look what happened, she couldn't find happiness.

Yun Zhong Ge Chapter 29: Soaring Together Through This Life

After taking a day off to catch up with Gaksitaaaaal, I'm back! This is a sweet, short interlude, the whole chapter completely and utterly devoted to Ling Ge Ge and Yun Ge as the readers get a peek into their interactions now that Yun Ge clearly knows that her heart lies with him and that barrier that she intentionally placed in between them is gone, they are truly as free as birds around each other. As I was translating this snippet, I was playing Kenji Wu (吳克群)'s Holding Hands (牽牽手) (english translations here) and thought that it described their relationship perfectly.

There is something so pure and untainted about their love for each other that makes me root for this couple instantly. They are able to strip away life's complexities and complications so easily and know that the simple things are the ones that count. Enjoying life's simple joys and living life to the fullest are what really matters. Those that have read spoilers, when I looked back at this chapter, there is just this sense of bittersweetness, for the what could-have-been.

Update: CHAPTER COMPLETE. This chapter is really a breeze to translate cause it is really a much needed break from all the earlier heaviness.

Yun Zhong Ge Chapter 28: This Life, Next Life

This chapter is as exciting as the last, maybe even more as we see what the Huos have got planned for Yun Ge. It is also as long as the previous chapter, so I've learned my lesson and will split it into two should it get too long.

Update: CHAPTER COMPLETE. War is war, and that was how they operated. No winners, only losers and sufferers. This was like the treaty of Versailles, imposing heavy heavy reparations on Germany and limiting their armed forces but what did it lead to? World War II. 'Turning the other cheek' will never be considered by countries. For those questioning Meng Jue's motives, there you are, clear as day. Second thought: Ooh, I managed to squeeze this into one post

Yun Zhong Ge Chapter 27: Cry of the Deer (Part 2)

Update: CHAPTER COMPLETE!

Livejournal refused to let me post it together with the rest of it because they said it was too long so I've had no choice but to separate this chapter. At 10,892 words, it is no wonder my post was rejected for being too long.

Realize that in every book, Tong Hua will add an exciting banquet scene with people from other tribes in attendance? Ruo Xi in BBJX planned one, Yu'er danced for Huo Qu Bing in one, and now this. It'll be very interesting to see how the drama will tackle this chapter cause I think it can either turn out really tacky or very beautiful.

Yun Zhong Ge Chapter 27: Cry of the Deer

This chapter is the nail-biting kind of exciting, with duels all around and hundreds of spectators watching. Readers get a glimpse of Liu Bing Yi finally standing up, taking the limelight and commanding respect. It is very interesting how the foreshadowing works here in this passage, with Liu Bing Yi and Liu Fu Ling on the highest point, overlooking the crowd, defeating Ke'er Dada as allies.

Ignoring the fact Liu Bing Yi will be evil later on in the novel, he is really quite likeable here as he shares a comfortable camerederie with Yun Ge, able to tease her and know she wouldn't get pissed off. I really enjoyed reading this moment he shared with Yun Ge, all gruff and manly 'no-I-certainly-do-not-care' facade on, I found it really adorable.

Like everyone, I feel really bad for Liu Fu Ling, but he's so understanding, so perfect that I totally get why people would prefer Meng Jue just because he is so complex, so dark, yet so loving. The problem with Meng Jue is that I find him too deep, too hard to understand in terms of husband material, whereas Liu Fu Ling shares this immediate connection with Yun Ge, they just totally and completely 'get' each other, which would make him my choice for Yun Ge.

Yun Zhong Ge: Chapter 26: Foreboding Storms

And heave, ho here we go! The exciting set up for the dragon slide fall begins. It's a very short chapter so I'll try to post updates throughout the day as and when I'm done with a part. Should be done before I need to leave for dinner, methinks.Yessss, finished this with time to spare. I need a bath.

Everyone should be shitting bricks for Yun Ge right now, but there she is, still oblivious, enjoying the night, her moment with Liu Fu Ling. Sigh. The next chapter is going to be very long (almost twice as long as normal chapters), but also very exciting, so hold on tight!

Yun Zhong Ge Chapter 25: Virtuous Demeanor Not Forgotten

This chapter sets us up for the next three chapters, as the players slowly move into position, ready for war. The following passage shows that Shang Guan Xiao Mei isn't stupid, there's this underlying meaning to her words. She knows who that 'beautiful flower' is, and at this time, her emotions are all jumbled up. She wants to be loved, but she has accepted her lot in life, knowing she is doomed to rot away in this palace, unloved....or has she? Yun Ge isn't showing blatant disregard for palace rules, she just wants Xiao Mei to come out of her shell, to live life as it ought to be lived, not as the Empress, but as a girl, as a woman. She treats Xiao Mei like any other girl, not an Empress, refusing to walk on eggshells around Xiao Mei, and Xiao Mei feels it too, since she drops the royal 'I' when talking to Yun Ge.

This chapter is truly Xiao Mei's turn to shine, and gives more insight to Huo Guang's life after Huo Qu Bing and Yu'er's death.
